CHEMICAL CLEANING

                         CHEMICAL CLEANING

This service is required to remove corrosive deposits that if not removed will slowly
rot away at the brass.  Your horn will require this service at least yearly or when it
displays one or more of the following symptoms. Stuck slides, problems with sticking
valves, green deposits on valves, valve casings or slide tubings.  Often times these
deposits may accumulate to such an extent that the playability of the horn is reduced
by as much as 10%.

During this process,  the instrument is completely dissembled, stuck slides are
pulled, accessible dents are removed and is soaked in a solution to remove all fats
and oils.  At this point the horn is then submersed in a natural acid solution and
flushed thoroughly to remove any lime and scale deposits.  Then the horn is dried,
and each piece of tubing is pressure tested for any leaks.  The horn is now fitted with
new adjusting corks, valve cap felts, water corks and is adjusted so that the valve
piston travel meets factory specifications.  Tuning slides are adjusted so the sleeves
and slides are aligned and parallel.  Slides are then greased and reassembled.  The
mouthpiece is buffed and polished, and the shank is re-rounded if required.  If the
horn is silver plated,  it is sprayed with a polish and tarnish preventative then hand
polished. If the horn has rotary valves, they are restrung and adjusted to factory
specific travel ranges and all linkages are tightened.
