PLAY CONDITIONING
Every pad will be checked for leakage, any missing key corks or felt silencers will be replaced, spring
tension will be checked, bent screws and rods will also be replaced. The tenon joints will be checked
for tightness. Any keys that are bent will be straightened. All key mechanisms will be oiled and every key
will be adjusted, leveled and regulated. Your instrument will then be completed by play testing.
If less than half of the pads need to be replaced, your instrument can usually be put into good playing
condition. If more than half of the pads need to be replaced, it's more cost-efficient and your instrument
will play better if it is completely repadded or mechanically overhauled. Typical turn around time for play
conditioning is 2 to 4 days plus approval time if necessary.
COMPLETE REPAD
This service will include the above Play conditioning as well as the replacement of ALL of the pads
and corks. The typical turnaround time for a complete repad is 4 to 7 days.
COMPLETE OVERHAUL
Same as complete repad except all key corks and springs are replaced and keys and body are buffed
and/or polished. Your instrument will look almost new and will play as good or better than new.
Typical turnaround time is 7 to 9 days
OVERHAUL PROCESS
1. Your instrument will be taken apart, all keys will be fit to their to rods and between the posts.
Any worn hinge tubes on any key will be adjusted to fit the rod, or, if the posts are also worn,
new hinge rods will be utilized to fit the post and the old key refit to the new rod. Hinge tube ends
will be buffed and deburred. Key sections are then fit between pivot screws.
2. All old pads and corks are removed from the keys.
3. Tone holes will be faced to remove any nicks and scratches and making them as level as possible.
4. All of the keys will then be buffed or hand polished to look as new as possible .
5. Your instrument will be cleaned with special brushes and solutions depending on the type and
condition of your Instrument.
6. Hinge tubes and posts will be degreased, polished and cleaned with special cleaners to remove any
incumberances.
7. All key bumpers, pads, corks and felts will then be fit onto place and installed with a special
adhesive that will not fail under extreme conditions.
8. Your instrument is then reassembled. All rods, screws and hinge tubes are lubricated with a synthetic
lubricant, and all keys and pads are leveled over their tone holes. Rough adjustments are then made.
9. Keys are then clamped for a light impression and your instrument is then heated and left to sit for a
few hours. It is then unclamped and play tested.
10. Your instrument is then completely checked over again to remove any pinhole leaks that might have
occured due to the settling of the pads. Any final adjustments and regulations are made.
11. Your instrument is once again thoroughly play tested.
